How Do You Choose Litterbox For Cat
The article will describe what cat litter will work best for a cat, because the right choice of a litterbox will bring comfort both for the pet and its owner.
Any pet shop can offer a wide choice of litterboxes; there exist certain criteria that would allow for choosing a good option for your pet.
There are surely the definite ins and outs at purchasing, as every pet has its preferences; but mainly it will be sufficient to observe the following rules when choosing a litterbox:
- For kittens, it is desirable to choose small-size litterboxes with low sides. They will feel comfortable with such litterboxes: it is easy to get in, and it has a size suitable for them, as kittens do not like large litterboxes; besides, it is a plus for the owner as well, as it is easy to use such litterbox for a journey;
- For adult species, especially cats, it is advisable to buy litterboxes with high sides. An ideal option will be a litterbox with a special rubber top. High sides will prevent cat litter from scattering, and the top will make it easy to replace cat litter (it fastens a bag, on which cat litter is placed; upon dirtying, it is necessary to remove the tip and throw away the bag with litter; it is not required to clean out and wash the litterbox);
- It is not recommended to buy litterboxes with grids, in spite of their low cost; they cause discomfort with cats, their claws can catch on the grid; and if you fail to clean out the litterbox rather frequently, the pet will ignore the litterbox and will do its business in some other places. Unless absolutely necessary, you’d better buy a litterbox where the grid is far apart from the bottom; then it can be filled for a longer period;
- Closed-type litterbox. A convenient item, but not very popular. Has the shape of a skipper – a plastic and sometimes a transparent box. It is recommended to buy such type for residential houses, as it occupies quite a spot. But it has an essential plus as well – a coal filter to clean out waste, and the litterbox design itself prevent unpleasant odours getting outside the litterbox. The only minus is the price and that, though not often, it needs thorough cleaning and the filter to be replaced.
The main principles when choosing a litterbox will be definitely comfort and convenience. The top priority being convenience for the pet, and then only for its owner. When purchasing, one needs to take into account its individual parameters: size, breed, and its habit of life.
Upon assessment, one needs to conclude, which of the options offered by the pet shop will work best for the pet, and then purchase it. And, of course, any litterbox requires maintenance; otherwise, in spite of all its advantages, the cat will stop liking it.
